Small business is the beating heart of each community. Every turned 'open' sign is an act of commercial hope, the sweat on every tradie's brow at day's end reflects hard work done, and every new home business is an Australian backing themselves.
Small business is where most Australians get their first job. They're the first to help community sport and groups that bring us together, and act as the quiet heroes to promote pride.
But the system is broken. We have had record small business insolvencies in 2025. And over 41,000 have gone bust since 2022.
The rules written for big business are being applied to small and family businesses, sole traders and the self-employed.
With so many rules and regulations, small business can't compete - you shouldn't need a compliance, government relations or human resources department to operate.
That is why we want to renew the economy so that small businesses get a fair go. We want to see a new Small Business Act that addresses the realities of running a small business in Australia. We want:

Yet, State and Federal governments ignore small business – except when they want tax revenue.
While big business has lobbyists that stalk the Prime Minister’s corridor to advocate for their interests.
Small business is largely left to fend for itself.
We want to organise hundreds of thousands of small businesses nationwide, so small business has a voice in State capitals and across Australia, and make Australia a small business nation.
